New York City – Mona Robson, née Mary Jane Motto, age 71, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 15, 2019, with her family at her side, at The Muriel and Harold Block Hospice in the Bronx. ` Mona was born April 24, 1948 in Utica, NY, and was the daughter of the late Rocco and Mary Motto. She attended Whitesboro and St. Francis High Schools, and then moved to Manhattan’s west side where she immersed herself in theater activities and the world of drama. Mona was an artist, writer, actress and stage assistant. She met Jackie Curtis in the 1960s and became a trusted friend and companion of his, as well as his backstage assistant. Curtis passed away in 1985. Mona continued her writing, and stage work, but once warm weather arrived, she could often be found on the beaches of Coney Island. She loved children, music, reading, movies, plays, and puzzle books. She loved talking about current events and politics, and supported her beliefs by joining others in rallies. She was a long-time member of Fountain House. Her favorite singers included Mel Torme and Paul Allen. Early in 2019 her health deteriorated. Subsequently, she was diagnosed with stage four cancer which took her life in July. Mona is survived by relatives in the Utica area, Schenectady, Dennis, MA, Florida, and California. Mona’s family wishes to thank the staff at Fountain House for their guidance, and strong support to Mona and her family through the years; the Staff on Floor 9A at Mount Sinai West, as well as the Oncologists and Radiologists; and the Staff at The Block Hospice for their caring support of Mona, and family. Mona supported numerous charitable organizations including the National Geographic Society, and various environmental and animal protection organizations.
